We’ve seen Android hacked together to accomplish some pretty wacky and zany things, and often times those “things” involve an Android handset being the “brain” of an actual robot. I’m not sure anybody does it better than cellbots, who just added voice commands to their bot. Your signficant other won’t listen? Boss around a bot – they always behave!
New additions to the Arduino Truckbo t include compass direction shifting and responding to voice commands: fetch me a rack of ribs in Northern Baltimore! Somehow I don’t see that happening.
Want to build your own? Cellbot even has a little site helping folks like you out on Google Code. Ready, Set, BUILD ME A PESONALY ASSISTANT/TRAINING ROBOT.
Go arduino!
This is cool. You could direct the robot to go to a particular place, say the museum. I reckon you could also hook up the camera and some object recognition stuff to avoid obstacles on route, and maybe even add in some facial recognition stuff to detect when it has arrived and met someone (the meet-ee). This would be great for visually impaired people also. Or, even the army; for example, when running re-con missions that it is not safe to place a human or animal – say in a collapsed building or during a gun fight. Maybe even search and rescue.
