Verizon’s DROID lineup of phones have a long history, and maintain the honor of being one of the first highly marketed devices that helped accelerate Android to new heights. There’s no secret that the line fell by the wayside at one point, but Motorola introduced a stellar lineup last year to help revive it. It looks like things could get even better.
According to information received by Android Authority, this would be called the Motorola DROID Turbo and could be loaded with the following specs:
- 2.65GHz Snapdragon 805
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB of storage
- 1440 x 2560 resolution (640 DPI, which would be around 4.6 inches)
- Android 4.4.4
- 20 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front camera
The device, with the model number XT1254, was spotted in the Bluetooth SIG database not too long ago. Even with that shred of evidence that it may be real we’d suggest taking the rumor with a grain of salt. Motorola wasn’t all that interested in trying to push the specs race with last year’s models, however there’s nothing stopping them from changing course and deciding to drop an absolute beast of a phone that even Samsung would be proud of.
Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any information in regards to the device’s release date, but considering we’re coming close to a year since last year’s DROID lineup launched we’d say it might not be long until we see Verizon looking to push the sequel. All we can do is hope for more information as we head straight into the fall.
2K on a 4.6″ screen? That sounds like overkill.
It’s not 4.6 inches. The DPI setting on the phone is 640, not that the screen is actually 640. For example the DPI setting on the 5.5 inch LG G3 with the same res. is 640, that is for scaling. The actual PPI is 534

Looks like the Moto phones will finally be up to date with specs after all. Finally.
It amazes me how many people prioritize specs over actual performance. Last year, it was only Apple and Motorola that took thermal properties into account (a 2.x ghz CPU is useless if heat keeps it throttled down to 1.25ghz).
I don’t see a 2.65ghz quad-core CPU doing well in a phone with a 4.6″ display. Qualcomm hasn’t had a massive die shrink recently to help offset that heat.
It’s not 4.6 inches. The article above is confused between the DPI setting on the phone and the actual PPI of the phone. Expect 5.2 to 5.5 or more inches.

We all know that rumors can be wrong. And if the screen size is wrong, what else on this rumor is wrong?
My point still remains. Cell phones in general are just too small to have maxed out current generation processors. The iPhone doesn’t beat the pants off similar generation quad-core phones because the CPU is more powerful (it often isn’t, in terms of raw processing power). It’s because the CPU can stay at or near max clock speeds due to lack of thermal throttling, giving more consistent performance. The Nexus 5 is rated at 2.26ghz (CPU) and 450mhz (GPU), but under certain situations throttles to 1.25ghz (CPU) and 200mhz (GPU). That is not acceptable.
The current Moto X punches above its weight for the same reason that the iPhone does, which is better design, IE, no point in putting in two more cores that don’t add much to performance (no real need), but actually degrade performance due to the extra heat produced.
I think that these high-clocked quad-core SOCs are great, when used in a larger device like a tablet. But in smartphones, their extra overhead has offered more detriment than real world performance gains.
It can’t be 4.6 if the Moto x +1 will be 5.2

Except you can disable almost all bloat apps, leaving you with near-stock Android. You can’t disable TouchWiz like that.
While you can’t disable TouchWiz, you can install a launcher over TouchWiz. Or root + rom if your phone isn’t locked down by Verizon or AT&T.

Microsd card and maxx battery = sale. 20MP camera probably means its the sony sensor which would make it hard for them to mess up…but knowing motorola and cameras they may just find a way…
I predict NO microSD card but yes to a Maxx battery. I also predict it’ll be the best Moto camera experience yet….but still falling short of the competition.

640dpi doesnt mean 640ppi . LG G3 has 5.5″ screen, 534 ppi and 640 dpi. I’m almost 100% sure that the screen will be 5.5″ with 534 ppi and 640 dpi!

nope, ppi is hardware spec, dpi is software spec and you can chenge it on most custom roms.
I agree. This will definitely be a phablet. There’s no point in cramming that many pixels into a 4.6″ screen.
Why do we need a resolution higher than 1080p (pixels)? It’s just useless battery drain. Anything above 5″ is a phablet.
I HATE VERIZON getting all the goodies from Motorola this should be on every carrier. They need to DROP THIS DROID name for once.
Or you could just switch to Verizon, to partake in the goodies.
I’m going to go ahead and call it. This will be a 5.5″ – 5.7″ phablet and will be marketed as a direct competitor to the Galaxy Note line. This will *not* be a 4.6″ device. It may even come w/ a stylus.

Pretty sure Moto now either let’s you unlock or will sell a developer edition.
I forgot about that unlocking tool motorola provides. Let’s hope that verizon doesn’t block you from using it.

Locked bootloader has nothing to do with phone unlocking. A locked bootloader has nothing to do with us laws, only the manufacturer and what they want to do with their phone, in this case they want it to be unlocked but verizon has them lock it down.

If this is really a 4.6 inch screen phone I’ll definitely be buying this over the x+1. I highly doubt it will be thought, because it cost too much to cram that high of a spec list into a phone body that small.

Too damn bad this great device is on Verizon, what a total waste. This is the size phone that all the major manufacturers should be pumping out with those kind of specs. Plenty of HP and plenty of internal storage. My kind of phone.
