In case you missed, T-Mobile began pushing out Android 5.1.1 to the Nexus 6 this weekend. This flavor of Android — build LYZ28E — was built especially for the Nexus 6 on T-Mobile and features the long awaited WiFi Calling feature baked right in. With WiFi calling, Nexus 6 owners can make calls and send text messages even in places where they have zero bars. You gotta admit, that’s pretty handy especially if you live up in the mountains or other areas where T-Mobile’s towers have trouble reaching.
Because the update is rolling out in stages, some of you may not have gotten the update quite yet. Don’t worry, you’ll get it soon. For those that don’t feel like waiting, here’s the OTA link for manual flashing (if you’re into that sort of thing). For anyone else looking to download the full factory image — which will restore your device to its full factory settings — you can now find that on Google’s Nexus factory images page down below. This is great for those that Have at it.

What about the God damn N5?
N5 has 5.1.1 already, and has for a week. Nobody ever (officially) said the N5 would get WiFi calling.

Well, once AOSP gets the code I’m sure XDA will be all over it. Assuming enough of it is in AOSP and not an app/baseband/binary…
This is so stupid of Android I can’t even begin to tell you. This feature should have been on the very first phone they ever made. I had this feature on my BlackBerry Bold in 2008. I f***ing hate Google for this. This should not even been news right now. Welcome to 2008 everybody. 7 years later we are waiting for Wi-Fi calling. f*** you Google.

Look how fast Apple got on the wifi calling train for T-Mobile! Google you suck as a company where an amazing internet related featue by the company that has supported you since the beginning of Android can’t even be supported by you.
Blackberry. Freakin blackberry did wifi calling better than you google. Google is the last to launch this natively.
It WAS on the first Android phone ever made public. The G1 as well as the MyTouch3G both had it. It disappeared with android 4 I think

G1 and MyTouch 3G neither had WiFi calling. (I had them both.)
First Android with WiFi calling was the HTC G2 (Desire Z-type). And just like all non-Nexus 6 phones with WiFi calling, it was added by HTC + T-Mobile + some 3rd Party who had a video talking about it and everything.
Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I got it to work. (had both my touch 3G and the moto defy… the defy was actually a great phone. Maybe I was wrong about G1,I didn’t have one).

If you say so. But definitely was out before android 5, and I’ve never owned a mt4g, although I wanted one.
I had Wi-Fi calling and used it overseas. It definitely was on the Defy, stock, and pretty sure I had it on mt3g too, but I was rooted, so…possible it was a different app. if that makes you feel vindicated that’s cool!
At any rate the argument we are “still waiting on Wi-Fi calling” when the OP had it in 2008 is moot. Android had it too.

The MyTouch 3G may have gotten it OTA as part of 2.2, but look at the press release photo then look at a photo of the MyTouch 3G. VERY different phones.

Yup. Android got WiFi calling through 3rd Party support in 2010.
Apparently I can’t remember what I was doing last week these days, so no worries!
I use Google voice a lot now so don’t really miss Wi-Fi calling, but it was nice.
My current debate is whether to pick up an N6, or wait. Wasn’t going to get one at all (N5 is great) until Project Fi…
The G2 and myTouch 4G were the first wifi calling android phones on T-Mobile.
T-Mobile has offered wifi calling on even flip phones since 2007.

Had a Defy, great phone, there are people still making ROMs for it, although I finally upgraded after running ICS on mine.

So, no, the G2 was tied with the Defy and MyTouch 4G. It just didn’t get any press release love.

You must wait then until Sprint releases there build, as the D build is for Sprint, I did the same thing, sadly unless we downgrade there is no way for us to get Wi-Fi calling, and if you downgrade you void your warranty as it requires an unlocked bootloader…
LMY47D is for AT&T network (Straight Talk) on my Nexus 6.
LMY47Z downloaded last night from Sprint
Down rev to LRX22C, then sideload the Tmo versions. You may have to manually flash and omit the bootloader when going from 5.1 to 5.0.1 (I did), then sideload from there.
Ended up having to “force flash” C build.
Glad it worked out for you.
I flashed over my D build with the Nexus Root Tool.
