Despite having more than 1.44 billion monthly active users, Facebook knows that not everybody wants to join a social network just to keep in touch with friends and/or family. That’s why they’re eliminating the need to log in with a Facebook account altogether in their latest Messenger update.
Launching first for users in Canada, the United States, Peru and Venezuela, Messenger will not only require a phone number in order to get started using the service which we admit, is much more enjoyable to use than Hangouts. Users who login with their phone numbers will still have access to all the features in Messenger including sending photos, group chats, even voice and video calling.
Facebook does mention that there are still benefits to using your Facebook account to login vs only your phone number like being able to message Facebook friends/contacts (not just people in your phone book), as well as access messages across multiple devices and on the web.
As someone who spends a lot of time messaging friends/family on Messenger, this is absolutely perfect as my immediate family is no longer on Facebook. I’d be willing to guess more than a few of can relate.
ohh…. boy………. great…………. i’m……………so….. super… excited….. NOT
Hating on Facebook is no different than hating on anything else that is popular that you don’t agree with/find fault with for whatever reason. There’s not really a point to it other than expressing your dislike of said popular thing or trying to convince everyone to agree with you (which won’t happen). It doesn’t really achieve anything.
Kind of like….. complaining about a guy complaining?
(ohhhhh the ironic hypocrisy of it all.)
I didn’t really mean to complain, but I guess it came out that way without me intending for that to happen. My apologies.
I was attempting to make the point that popular things that are kinda petty/overblown in importance by a fair amount of people can be a source of frustration and you might feel like expressing how unimportant those things can be in reality.
Deleting it just because of this …………. jk
I really hope that in the future all messangers will be connected. Since while I am facebookhater I still like to chat people who use it.
Logging in using my phone number does not help. Since I will not install Facebook software on my phone…
You people should all give up on overhyping Facebook membership numbers. Long a ago it’s been known that they count deactivated accounts (not deleted only deactivated) as active as well as Friend Train Members who signed up as many as 20 to 50 accounts that are never used. I’ve got 10 accounts I haven’t logged into in years and they are still active. They were junk accounts…. so why bother deleting them if no real information or tracking can ever be gained by Facebook. They only get to Over Bloviate their membership numbers! lol….
For the love of god they must insure that stickers will be included. If I don’t have the ability to post a sticker of a monkey typing on a keyboard this will be of no use to me.
