OnePlus didn’t pull any punches when marketing last year’s OnePlus One as a true “flagship killer.” In some regard, it was. When compared against flagships like the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5, the One offered up more RAM, higher battery capacity, even a higher res camera (the front facing one anyway), at a price that couldn’t be beat. Of course, actually getting the opportunity to buy the phone was a different story.
OnePlus says they’ve learned a lot since launching the One last year. But no matter how stiff the competition they face this year is, it seems they’re just as confident as ever that their device will be the one to beat — not just this year, but next year as well. In a post on Twitter, the smartphone startup thanked its hardware partners while billing their device as a “2016 flagship killer.” You heard right: 2016.
“Thank you to our partners who helped make the #OnePlus2 possible! Together, we’ve created the 2016 Flagship Killer.”
Those are some pretty bold words given, like its predecessor, the OnePlus 2 is geared as a more affordable flagship, offering up a mix of great hardware at a reasonable price. The funniest part is that if the OnePlus 2 is a 2016 flagship killer, will it somehow trump next year’s OnePlus 3?
We’re not sure what else OnePlus has up their sleeves, but what we do know is the phone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 4GB RAM, 13MP camera, fingerprint scanner, USB Type C, and a 3,300mAh battery — all for under $450. Can it be done? We wont have to wait much longer to find out. The OnePlus 2 is set to be officially unveiled on Monday, July 27th.
