Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 is officially here, folks. The goods were announced this morning in two different size variants — 9.7 inches and 8 inches — and a whole new 4:3-esque aspect ratio. These things are no doubt taking aim at Apple’s iPad lineup, though that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
They stack up quite well under the hood, with common specs featuring an Octa-Core chipset (1.9GHz + 1.3GHz), 3GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of storage, an 8 megapixel rear camera that shoots at up to 2560 x 1440 resolution, a 2.1 megapixel front camera and 2048 x 1536 display resolution. They’ll also enjoy full WiFi a/c MIMO, Bluetooth 4.1 LE, GPS w/ GLONASS, 4G LTE, a fingerprint scanner and Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Battery naturally differs between the two, though, with the bigger device sporting 5,870mAh of juice as opposed to 4,000mAh in the 8-inch variant. Both devices’ storage can also be expanded by up to 128GB thanks to a microSD slot, something we’re glad to see after its absence in the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
They’re also rather thin with a profile of just 5.6mm, which should make for a comfortable time. Samsung says they’ll launch globally starting this August, though price and exact availability will certainly vary from market to market (we’d say it’s safe to assume these things will cost between $400 and $500 if you need a starting point for how much to save).
