If you followed along during Motorola’s press event for the new Moto X Style this morning, you may have heard them mention that the Pure Edition of the device can be used with any US carrier with the simple swap of a SIM card.
And if you dug deeper and looked at the thing on Motorola’s website, you would have noticed that was mostly true… except the listing was missing Verizon’s most important LTE band: 13. Here’s how the network specifications read out on Motorola’s website
- UMTS GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
- UMTS/HSPA+ (800, 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
- 4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 25, 28, 40, 41)
Band 13 is what Verizon originally launched their LTE network on and is their most widespread coverage available. This is opposed to Band 4 (XLTE) that is listed and isn’t deployed in more than a handful of cities.
Thankfully, that doesn’t mean the Moto X Pure Edition won’t support Band 13 LTE. We’ve reached out to Motorola and they’ve confirmed that the listing on the website was an error, and that the device will, in fact, have full support for the entirety of Verizon’s 4G LTE network. They’ll be looking to update the website with the correction in due time.
That’s a comforting fact to know in case you had any reservations about whether the device was truly carrier agnostic. The phone arrives this September for a starting price of $399.99, so start saving!
[Update]: Would you look at that? Motorola’s gone and fixed the error, and the website now correctly lists the device as having support for Verizon’s Band 13 LTE. There should be no worries about which network you can use the Moto X Style Pure Edition on whenever you grab yours later this year.
