We mentioned a few times in the past we’re not the biggest fans of smartphone concepts. Usually accompanied by outrageous specs and pretty out there designs, it’s just never fun to get so worked up over something, especially when the end product never looks nearly as nice.
That being said, we think it’s safe to assume Nintendo will never make an Android smartphone and maybe that’s why we allowed ourselves to fantasize about that Smart Boy concept from a few weeks ago. It was a tad bit out there, with a retro inspired design and modular cartridge features that was more geared for those of us old enough to remember the 8-bit original.
For those looking for something a little more up-to-date, a new Nintendo smartphone concept is getting us worked up all over again, mainly because it’s a more modern take on the Nintendo smartphone concept. More like a Wii Phone (we think the concept calls itself the Wii M), the smartphone actually dreams up some relatively modest specs (something Nintendo fans are probably used to by now). It’s got a 4.5-inch display and features a custom Android UI geared towards a Wii design. We’re not going to lie, it looks pretty damn sweet.
Arguably the weirdest part is the slide out keyboard that while functional, we’d still be just as excited about the concept without. Where most premium devices tout metal frames and chamfered edges, we have to admit it’s almost refreshing to see a smartphone reminiscent of the original T-Mobile G1.
