OnePlus 2 gets big software update for photo enthusiasts, co-founder says they should work on ‘under promising’

It was a month ago to the day that the OnePlus 2 received its first software update, but even after the update (which was said to improve battery performance and issued Stagefright fixes), there was still a lot of work to be done.

Today, a new software update — OxygenOS 2.1.0 — will begin hitting devices and aside from cleaning up leftover bugs from the last update, looks to bring new camera enhancements for “photography enthusiasts.” As detailed in the OnePlus forum, the phone’s camera app will finally have a manual shooting mode because that’s what the kids are into these days. Here’s the full changelog:

• We’ve added manual mode for all you photography enthusiasts. Hope this will give you more control for capturing that perfect moment.
• Raw support is now enabled for 3rd party camera apps that support this format
• There’s a new color balance slider in Display for adjusting the color tone of your screen. You can now go warmer or cooler as you please.
• Added Exchange support.
• We fixed some issues that were causing problems with popular 3rd party apps.
• Telephony service improvements so you no longer get the lag when you turn on/off airplane mode.

OnePlus is calling 2.1.0 a “sizable” update, which will begin a slot rollout today, hitting only a few devices, followed by a more broad rollout in the coming days. We’re hoping that aside from manual camera mode and RAW support, OnePlus did something about the focus hunting that plagues video recording on the device.

In related news, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei seemed excited enough about the update in a post on Twitter. But when asked about new OxygenOS updates for the original OnePlus One, Pei said, “OnePlus as a company needs to practice the art of under promising. ?” We’re not sure if that’s good or bad  but it sounds like they’re working on something, but don’t want to get ahead of themselves.
