We are just hours away from Samsung’s event at Mobile World Congress 2016 where they are expected to announce the latest devices: the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. We’ve seen leaks upon leaks, and actually those are still pouring in. We now know what to expect in terms of physical appearance, but the most recent rumors focus on the software side of things.
A new report has states that Samsung is aiming to keep the number of pre-installed applications to a minimum, by moving these applications to the Google Play Store or their own Galaxy Apps hub. “Bloatware” has been an issue on Android for as long as I can remember, and unless you have a Nexus device, it’s still a common problem even with the push to optimize the battery and performance on devices. This report states that the following applications will be the pre-installed on your devices:
- Browser
- File Manager
- Music Player
- Gallery
- Voice Recorder
Samsung already has quite a few applications on the Play Store, with the intention to allow for easier update access, and to clean up the user experience on their devices. Hopefully, as this report suggests, Samsung follows through and allows us, the users, to decide which applications we do or do not want on our devices.
We’ll be able to find out if this report is true tomorrow, as that’s when everyone will want to tune into Samsung’s event at Mobile World Congress 2016.
