By While the Android tablet race has gotten pretty crowded in recent months, we still have yet to see any of these devices pushed to market. Still, it doesn’t keep us from getting excited every time we see a new one. Malata’s SMB-A1011 tablet does just that on their extremely attractive offering.
Inside, it sports a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-score chipset with a 1Ghz ARM Cortex A9 processor completing a very nice circle. It comes with 512MB-1GB of RAM and 512MB-1GB of ROM, with 2GB-32GB if internal storage (there will be several configurations to choose from). It has a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024×600.
There’s no information on how well its battery holds up, but it does come with a 3500mAh lithium polymer battery. Connectivity options include a Mini USB, Mini HDMI-out, 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi, and Bluetooth (reportedly optional). Currently, it’s running what looks to be an unmodified version of Android 2.1.
Charbax from ARMDevices gave a quick look at the device and even without any apparent optimization, it looked like it could hold up to some intensive tasks. Check the video out above.
If it has 2.1, why does it have a cheesy app drawer instead of the quick app launcher? It’s merely a matter of appearance, but the way 2.1 launches apps is far more polished and advanced looking. The iPad may or may not be the best out there, but regardless, it looks awesome. If you’re going to go toe to toe with Apple, you have to beat them at their own game.
2.1 can be customized to have the old-style launcher. This is what the Motorola Droid and the Samsung Moment does.
Don’t remember seeing that option on my Nexus.
Now that tablet looks interesting, but will/can it get upgraded to Froyo and Gingerbread? Gingerbread being where Google can OTA core Google apps.

@Aeires I meant at manufacturer level. They often customize vanilla Android to exclude many features. Samsung, for instance, elected to omit the new gallery, live wallpapers, and the “Nexus-style” launcher.
*For the Samsung Moment, that is.

A4 and A9 are completely different type of processors. A4 is made by Apple and it runs at 1Ghz. So just cause this tablet is running an A9 processor doesnt mean it faster because the number is highr
That’s officially the best looking and best specs yet for an android tablet. If its best version comes in at under 300 it could be sellable here in the states. Also I have to watch it again but I think it was regular hdmi out not mini.
Sidenote…I hate that archos douche that does these videos. Nothing personal just the way he talks and how he doesn’t take 5 minutes to get his facts straight…it ends up being a shitty video with him doing a lot of flipping the product

@Quentyn, I still don’t get it. Why would they omit the great things that are part of the OS? From a marketing point of view, that makes no sense. Everyone knows they are going to go head to head with the iPad with whatever tablet gets developed. Knowing this, it’s pefectly clear that Apple foams at the mouth when it comes to the “slick” factor and aggressively markets in such a manner. If they really want to make a great show at the unveiling, give it all the bells and whistles, and load the coolest games on it so people can be blown away when they pick it up to see what it can do.
@droidphan, Apple A4 is ARM Cortex A8 based processor, this Malata tablet is using a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor implementation from Nvidia. In theory that makes this Malata tablet 2-3x more powerful than the iPad. The huge amounts of RAM options could be interesting as well. The 1080p video playback and HDMI output is also a clue of that.

@JHPadu Regular SD are becoming rare these times. When we want to buy the regular size, we usually buy a MicroSD inserted inside a regular size adaptor on the stores. Not a big deal…
