Samsung Galaxy S8 gets Bixby Voice in South Korea

0

Samsung’s Bixby on the Galaxy S8 didn’t support voice at launch, a strange omission for any serious virtual assistant platform in this day and age. But we’ve been expecting its arrival, and the welcome party begins today in South Korea.

Owners of the device in Samsung’s home country are starting to see the goods after receiving a notification alerting them to its arrival this morning.

We’re not yet sure whether it’s coming as a firmware update or an app update through Samsung Galaxy Apps. Our preference would be the latter since Samsung can update their apps when they want without carrier meddling. But even if they’re going the firmware route, we’re sure it’s a feature carriers won’t want to drag their feet on rolling out.

Places like North America and Europe are expected to get Bixby Voice soon, and with May’s rollout, we’d say “by the end of the month” is a safe bet. Samsung did say to expect it this Spring, after all, and a previous report suggested that May was the target.
