If you bought the Tango phone hoping it would enjoy an abundance of support over the years, brace yourself. Lenovo’s update roadmap shows that the entirety of the Phab 2 lineup will not be getting Android Nougat.
This includes the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the first ever Tango phone. It’s a sad day, indeed.
While there’s always a chance for any phone to hit an early wall in terms of updates, we thought the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro might not have hit it so soon. For one, it’s relatively young, and we thought Nougat would at least be a realistic expectation.
But there’s also the fact that this was the first phone to bring Tango into the world, and that was done with Google’s cooperation. What say you to all the developers who bought Tango phones for development who expected a solid platform for future development? That they made a mistake? That’s far from fair.
In any case, the Tango wasn’t solely a developers’ phone, with a retail launch happening with the great smartphone sales company known as — wait for it — Lowe’s!
So yeah, we’re thinking it just didn’t sell well at all (because who the hell is going to buy phones at Lowe’s?!) so Lenovo is letting it fall to the wayside. If you’re still needing a Tango phone, we’ll go ahead and recommend ASUS as the pick for now. We’re not sure if things will be any better with the ASUS-branded attempt at a mainstream Tango phone, but it’s better than going with an older phone that already seems to have taken its first step into the grave.
