People have their preferences when it comes to messaging apps on their Android phones and there certainly aren’t a lack of options. Fans of Trillian have been wondering when they’ll release an Android App and the company published a blog post promising the Beta is “only a few weeks away”. They’re hoping the announcement will hold off the hoard of eager e-mailers and they left us with more than just an announcement.
Some screen shots:
And a list of features:
- Connect to Facebook Chat, Windows Live, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP and MySpaceIM
- Synchronize your contacts, avatars, status, accounts and more with your Trillian-enabled desktop or mobile apps
- Get notified easily with Android notification system integration
- Contact list sorting, grouping, metacontacts support, privacy settings and various ways to organize
- Set status, avatar and display name quickly in one simple screen
- Tabbed chat windows with bubble view, photo transfer, buzz and emoticon support
- Support for Android phones as far back as version 1.6 – works with your good old T-Mobile G1 or the newest HTC Evo 4G or Motorola Droid!
- We took special care and respect to design and build the user interface to smoothly integrate with Android – this is not just a clone from the iPhone!
Are you particularly excited fro Trillian for Android? Any features you’re wishing they would have included that aren’t above? We’ll keep you posted and let you know when this bad boy hits Android Market.
In the meantime, what are your favorite Messaging Apps for Android? Call me old school but personally, I’ve got the AIM, Skype and GTalk apps open an awful lot (and simultaneously)… maybe I need to consolidate!
[Via CeruleanStudios, Thanks Don!]
Holy crap, Trillian’s still around? I haven’t used it since I stopped instant messaging in 2003. Wows!
Holy crap its about time they did this, screw the iPhone version. They needed to do this sooner.
FINALLY! I was reading some ridiculous thread on their site where the developers were asking “why” they should port to Android. As if they needed the community to provide answers to the fastest growing mobile platform!?
Question to Mr. Rob Jackson — are you running the Skype App on a Verizon “Droid” device?
Used to be a huge Trillian Pro fan.
They need Skype connectivity. And should support 3G video chat.
Else I would sadly have to stick with Fring…
I want synced chat history between the desktop, app, and online versions… I don’t know if that’s included in “and more” though.
I would prefer Pidgin.
i second the Pidgin request and i’m concerned that trillian will charge for their app like they are doing on blackberry. i think it’s stupid to pay for an IM client when there are so many free options out there
I have been using Handcent for a cool minute now and I love it. I have to side with Mr. Jackson on his preferences. There is no logical reasoning for it on my part, but I just like having a specific app for a specific purpose only.lol. I guess its because it bring more joy in the morning. Why open one mailbox when you can open 5.lol.
I used Trillian every day, and I’m trilled that it’s finally coming to Android.
Synced chat history, as Phillip said, would be great, but unless they change how history is kept even on the desktop version, I don’t see that happening. It’s only saved locally as XML or TXT files.
I would also love if they could include a proper Skype protocol on both versions. That would eliminate the need for any other messaging software for me.
I’m with Simon, don’t IM much anymore. Still, I remember that both, Pidgin and Trillian, were good, but Trillian seemed more polished for Windows.
+1 for Pidgin!
WOW… late on the bus a little? This might have had a shot if they had gotten it done immed but they dragged their feet too much here.
Looks good!
I got into Palringo while on Windows Mobile on my Excalibur. Stuck with Palringo for my myTouch Slide.
I love the way astra looks, but trillian for android just looks gross and barren :/
I use Gtalk and MSNtalk
looks clean, reliable, and they’re saying the right things.
If it’s gonna be a high quality app, bring it on!
@Phillip
I want synced chat history between the desktop, app, and online versions…
let go of the past phillip, stop looking back
kind regards
Google need to bring out GooglePin, like BB. I don’t like giving my email. Also, why can I we not see when people are typing on GTalk? Google need 2 improve Gtalk to win over bb fans.
I use Trillian on my desktop so I’ll definitely pick this up and say goodbye to eBuddy. It’s odd they say it is 1.6+ yet show it on the notoriously unupdated Hero.
I’ll likely try this out when it’s released. I used to *love* Trillian before I found Meebo. I’m glad that they’re making a port specifically for the Android phone… but that said…
…
I have to point out…
…
ANDROID IS NOT A MOBILE PHONE. IT IS AN OPERATING SYSTEM.
I`m so glad that they are releasing the android port. But will see how it will perform.
And of course SKYPE support. I don`t like fring at all.
@Quboid: Hero has 2.1 as of few weeks ago.
Palringo has been my chat of choice up to now, but drains battery and lags. Definitely will try Trillian. Didn’t know Pidgin was out there. That’s my desktop client. Would like to see talk integration.
Looks good but it REALLY needs Skype. I have yet to find any app which works perfectly with MSN, Facebook Chat and Skype :-(
Some claim to yet never connect to one or the other.
try Nimbuzz on android. it works with skype+msn
Ok so it has been several weeks since this was announced when is the app coming out?!
it seems stable and has attractive interface, but it’s seriously lacking the main feature: BLOCKING USERS AND SPAM FILTER which makes it USELESS. every time I login I have 40+ chats and authorization requests from Yahoo & MSN users … I can’t spend 5 minutes closing chats and denying requests EVERY TIME I LOGIN into trillian. app deleted .
