HTC isn’t quite ready to show off its 2019 flagship smartphone, so instead, it showed up at Mobile World Congress to unveil the new HTC 5G Smart Hub — the most powerful hotspot device the world has ever seen. Since 5G is just now rolling out in select markets, owning a hotspot device for your home or for when you travel is probably the way many people will experience 5G at first.
The HTC 5G Smart Hub is designed mainly for the home, with a large 5-inch HD display which prominently shows off your 5G connection speeds and the number of devices connected to it, but it’s also meant for the road since it includes a massive 7,660 mAh battery on the inside. On top of that, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, expandable microSD slot and running Android 9 which technically makes this the most powerful 5-inch Android device on the planet.
With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and the 50X modem, the HTC 5G hub includes support for 802.11ad WiFi, Wi-Fi 6 support and simultaneously connect up to 20 devices at once. The HTC Hub also allows corporate VPN configuration so that it can be used on secured corporate networks. HTC is also baking in unique voice commands to manage connected devices or network settings while also including an easy plug-and-play option which would allow you to connect the HTC 5G Hub to your home internet modem and ditch your antiquated WiFi router altogether.
The HTC Hub 5G will be hitting select markets in Q2 of this year. So far, HTC has announced partnerships with Sprint, EE, Three UK and Telstra who will sell the HTC 5G Hub as one of their first 5G-enabled devices to their customers. Pricing has yet to be revealed, but we’ll be sure to let you know when HTC shares more details.
