The problem with some fitness trackers and smartwatches is that they can get a bit pricey, meaning that it can be difficult for some to justify spending that much money on them. If you don’t see the need for a fancy tracker or smartwatch, Xiaomi might be the brand to turn to, especially with the company’s Mi Band 4 planned for a launch later this year.
According to Huami’s Q4 2018 earnings call, the company was asked whether or not they had plans to launch the Mi Band 4 this year (Huami is the company that makes the Mi Bands for Xiaomi). There was initial speculation that it might launch in the first half of 2019, either in March of April, but according to Huami’s CFO David Cui, he was a bit noncommittal with his answer despite confirming that the device is planned for 2019.
“For Mi Band 4, it’s going to be in this year. It will be in 2019. But I’m not sure, it’s going to be in March and April. But, it is going to be in this year.”
For those who are unfamiliar with Xiaomi’s Mi Band, it is an extremely affordable fitness tracker which is priced at $30, a fraction of the cost when compared to other brands. Despite its cheap price tag, it does everything a fitness tracker is meant to do and even comes with a heart rate monitor.
Granted it might not be the sleekest fitness tracker we’ve seen, nor is it the most feature-packed, but if you just need something to track your workout, it should be good enough to get the job done and then some. It is unclear what kind of new features the Mi Band 4 might be packing, but it could be worth keeping an eye out for.
