Huawei confirms that the Mate 30 is already in testing

0

Huawei usually launches two flagship smartphones a year. One is part of its P-series of handsets, and the other is its Mate series. The company recently announced their latest flagship smartphones, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, which means that in the later part of the year, we can most likely expect the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.

In fact, during the company’s recent press conference held in Malaysia to announce the new P30 smartphones, a Huawei official confirmed that the Mate 30 is currently in testing. It feels a bit odd for Huawei to confirm the handset this early, and especially at an event for another handset, but at the same time, we can’t say that we’re surprised.

After all, testing can usually go for months at a time which means that testing the phone this early on does seem par for the course. The official also goes on to state that the company is aiming for a launch in either September or October later this year. Unfortunately, at the moment no one really knows what we can expect from the Mate 30 or Mate 30 Pro.

There is some speculation that Huawei could actually use a new chipset for the Mate 30 series in the form of the Kirin 985. This is a slight upgrade over the Kirin 980 found in the P30 phones, with the main difference being that it could feature the use of ultraviolet lithography (EUV) technology.

This is said to allow for up to 20% higher transistor density that will improve on power efficiency by around 10%, but whether we’ll actually get those numbers remains to be seen.
