One of the new features that Google introduced to its Gmail email platform is Smart Compose. This is an AI-powered feature where it learns your typing habits and can make predictions on sentences you want to complete.
While it does make typing your emails faster, we get it that some of you might find it a bit disconcerting that with every email, Google is getting you to know you better. While you can easily ignore Smart Compose and can opt not to use it, here’s how to you can just disable it completely.
Turn off Smart Compose on Android
- Launch the Gmail app on your Android phone
- Tap the three lines icon at the top left corner of the app
- Scroll down and look for Settings
- Select the Gmail account you want to edit
- Uncheck the Smart Compose box
You can follow these steps again to turn it back on.
Turn off Smart Compose on your computer
- Open Gmail in your web browser
- Click the Settings icon
- Select Settings
- Under the General tab, scroll down and look for Smart Compose
- Select Writing suggestions off
You can follow these steps again and select Writing suggestions on if you’d like to re-enable Smart Compose.
Note that disabling Smart Compose on your Android device does not disable it on your PC, and vice versa, so you’ll need to make sure that each of your devices has the correct settings.
