The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro may not begin appearing in people’s hands until April 5, but the company is already rolling out the first update for the devices. As well as integrating the March Android security patch, the update improves a number of elements, such as the camera, audio, and fingerprint sensor.
The P30 Pro retook the crown for the highest DxOMark awarded to a smartphone but despite that, Huawei has issued a day-zero update to optimize the camera performance in certain scenarios. This most likely references the AI optimization that Huawei uses in its software to alter the camera settings based on what scenery is detected for optimal results. The 400MB EMUI update also addresses a significant issue with the Always-On display on the P30 series regarding third-party notifications. Currently, the AOD prevents any third-party apps from displaying notifications on it, which pretty much defeats the purpose of it. The 9.1.0.124 update addresses this and now allows third-party apps to display notifications on the Always-On display. This bug fix is also expected to roll out to other eligible Huawei devices, such as the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro.
Further fixes include an issue that affected the Swiftkey keyboard that would be triggered by emails with large attachments, as well as an issue “that caused audio and video to go out of sync during playback of Instagram videos recorded in hands-free mode.”
The camera-centric P30 Pro with its impressive 5x optical zoom starts at 999 euros and is available for pre-order right now across Europe and will begin shipping starting April 5.
