At the moment, the Razer Phone is pretty much the only smartphone that has a 120Hz display, or at least the only smartphone that openly advertises it. This seems to be a feature of gaming smartphones where we’ve seen other companies launch phones with higher-than-average refresh rates.
If for whatever reason you’re not a fan of the Razer Phone, then perhaps ASUS could be a company worth checking out. This is because, in a post on Weibo by the official ASUS ROG account, the company has essentially confirmed that with the ASUS ROG Phone 2, the handset is expected to come with a 120Hz display.
The post used a game called “Under One Person” to illustrate their point, where it claims that the game will be the first game that will support the 120Hz display of the phone. It shouldn’t be surprising to learn that ASUS will be stepping up its game with the ROG Phone 2, although we have to wonder why it has taken them, and other manufacturers in the industry, this long to start introducing displays with a higher refresh rate.
To give you a bit of context, the previous ROG Phone only had a 90Hz refresh rate, although the upside is that it used an AMOLED display where as the Razer Phone’s 120Hz screen uses LCD.
That being said, not much else is known about the ASUS ROG Phone 2 at the moment apart from the use of a 120Hz display, but it has been pointed out that its predecessor launched in July last year, so it is possible that we won’t have to wait too long to get all the official details.
