In the latest round of Motorola Droid 2 rumors, the official training guide for the yet-to-be-released handset got lost at the corner of Verizon and Droid-Life and found itself online for the world to see. The usual that we’ve heard of is being communicated here: Swype is preinstalled as an alternate software keyboard, it’ll be coming with Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1, you will be able to use the new Mobile hotspot features found in the Motorola Droid X, it’ll have 720p HD video recording capabilities, and it’ll come with the “we-don’t-even-know-what-to-call-it-now” skin found on the Droid X.
New details include better exchange support, remote wiping and unlocking features, and the task of pushing this device as the official “replacement” for the original Droid (but who was surprised by that one?)
In other news, Verizon’s leaked word-of-existence of the phone on their site by listing it as one of their “advanced devices”. We’re not sure if this was a blunder or intentional, but it’s still up as of the time of this posting. While we can’t officially say the device exists yet (that’s why we have to use question marks and the word “rumor” so often), this is the closest thing to an announcement we’ll be getting for now.
[Thanks to Droid-Life for both finds. Head over there now for the fully gallery of images.]
i’m sick of this droid 2 shit. we all know its coming and until there is a release date set, this shit is just annoying…
Gsm gsm gsm anyone?
Seriously, Verizon. Enough foreplay. Just let me pre-order the thing already.
This is like Sprint with the Epic..Just release a frickin date already geeeez!!
It cannot be a replacement to the D1, that would require not losing any features. Locked bootloader is one heck of a feature loss.
Thats sad it has Motoblur :'( Damn you Motorola Damn YYYOOOOUUUU!
i want that wallpaper haha
I would buy it instantly, but if the GSM version really comes out in december it could be too late for the Droid2. I need a new phone now.
Phillip you’re right, by the time droid 2 comes out, HTC will probably have something more advanced like the HTC Desire HD.
@Steven – Has it been confirmed that the 2 will have a locked bootloader? Not that it would surprise me, but I haven’t seen any confirmation from Moto or Verizon.
@David — Of course there was already “confirmation”. Did you not read the press release from Motorola stating that the original DROID caused them to make the “Business move” to eFuse (or, Steve Jobs it, as I call it) all future smart phones. My original guess was morons were bricking DROIDS and returning them at an alarming rate saying they just stopped working, this cost M some pennies and they’re preventing the “stopped working” excuse. If a DROID X “stops working”, they’ll know it’s because of Bootloader tampering or an actual software issue.
@David not sure, but from everything we have seen so far it is just an X with a keyboard.
@Rob It was not due to the Droid they changed this, the Droid was a special case to not have it in the first place. Almost all “bricking” can be fixed by flashing the phone back to stock, something verizon already has folks doing as part of their support process. The Efuse is not turned on in the X and is in fact part of every Ti OMAP, even the D1 has it in there just not turned on.
No FFC. Fail. EVO or Epic, here I come.
WOW, there are some MOTO haters around here.
The Droid brought Motorola back to life. One of the reasons was because it came stock and it was able to be unlocked and you could do so many things to the phone.
So after that success they decided to change the game plan. I’m sure it was because of all the bricks from rooting etc! Yeah right my ass!!
Someone at Motorola realized that if you open the phone up like that and make it upgradable etc then people will keep the phone longer and not buy as often.
Hence locking that bad boy down.
I’ve been waiting and waiting for this phone BECAUSE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE VANILLA ANDROID!!!! That’s the REASON I want it over the droid x, incredible, etc. This is remarkably frustrating. First they nix the Nexus and now they won’t give us a stock phone of any kind. Screw Verizon and Motorola.
@JAG only because I have had moto of one kind or another for 10 years now, and my next phone will have to be non-moto.
@helpermonkey I hear you. Where do these companies get off thinking they can write software better than Google? Do they really think they need to go in and “fix” Android’s UI? Vanilla 2.2 is awesome as it is. Why must the butt-fuck their own spin on an already great product? Oh, then in doing so, they make version upgrades harder and delayed.
And they replace the AWESOME gallery app with their BULLSHIT one? Why doesn’t more people bitch about this?
And as soon as Android 3.0 comes out and it’s goddamn sexy as fuck, Droid X and Droid 2 owners are gonna by whiny ass bitches because they want that new fancy UI, but they can’t have it cuz Motorola thinks their bullshit grey buttons and shit-fuck launcher is better than stock….
Wow. Um, Rob? Maybe cut down on the caffeine a little.
all the D1 owners should be alble too update to this like me
