Dark mode is a feature that many users have been asking for for a while now, and with Android 10, it looks like Google finally released the feature. Coincidentally enough, Apple also introduced a similar feature with iOS 13, but it had one advantage: the ability to schedule the feature.
This means that users can set a time in which they want dark mode to be activated or deactivated, saving users the time from having to do it themselves. The good news for Android users is that it looks like it could be coming in the next major release for Android – Android 11, which is widely expected to be released in 2020.
This is according to the Google Issue Tracker in which a Googler seems to have confirmed that dark mode scheduling will be coming in a future update. We should point out that the idea behind dark mode scheduling isn’t new. It was spotted in early builds of Android 10, but it was ultimately pulled from the final release.
Google claims that they took out the feature as they believed that it could negatively affect the user experience as it would require the sudden restarting of apps while it is in use. That being said, the Google Issue Tracker suggests that Google might have found a way around it, so hopefully we’ll be able to see it in 2020.
