With summer slowly coming to a close, OnePlus is gearing up for the launch of the OnePlus 8T. The company always gives a lot more attention to the phones it launches in the spring, but the T-series devices always seem to be a bit more compelling, refining the design and hardware experience just enough while also delivering improved performance.
Based on the latest rumors, the Oneplus 8T could turn out to be the most compelling new smartphone to hit the market as we head into the final stretch of 2020.
OnePlus 8T performance
There’s no denying that the Oneplus 8 and 8 Pro offered incredible performance without taking into consideration how much cheaper they were when compared to competing devices. But the OnePlus 8T will be taking things to the next level.
Oneplus is expected to use the new Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset to power the OnePlus 8T, giving the phone is a bit of a performance boost over the phones the company launched earlier in the year. So far, the leaks have only confirmed a single model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but it’s possible that they’ll offer up to 12GB of RAM and additional storage options as well.
OnePlus 8T display
One of the most exciting upgrades that will be offered by the OnePlus 8T is its 6.55-inch, Full HD+, AMOLED display that will deliver a 120Hz refresh rate.
While the resolution and size are a step down from that of the OnePlus 8 Pro, the 8T will be using a flat display panel. OT some, this may sound like a downgrade, but many will agree with me that flat displays are significantly better than curved one since they reduce glare while also increasing the usability of the display itself by dramatically reducing the number of false screen taps.
OnePlus 8T cameras
The phone is rumored to feature a quad-camera setup that mixes the various cameras found on the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The main 48MP sensor will likely be the upgraded one used on the 8 Pro, while the 16MP ultrawide camera will be pulled from the OnePlus 8. The phone will also be getting a 5MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera.
OnePlus 8T battery & charging
Battery capacity is still unknown at this point, but it’s rumored that Oneplus will be upgrading its charging technology to allow the OnePlus 8T to charge at 65W, more than doubling the 30W charging offered by the Warp Charge 30T technology that is used by the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro.
For those keeping track, the new 65W charge rate matches Super VOOC 2.0, the charging standard Oppo announced earlier this year which is capable of charging a 4200mAh battery in 32 minutes.
OnePlus 8T price
While I’d like to tell you that we already know the price of the OnePlus 8T, we’ll all have to wait a bit longer for that detail to be revealed. Based on what we’ve seen in the past, we expect the OnePlus 8T will split the difference between the Oneplus 8 ($699) and 8 Pro ($899), coming in at around $799 when the phone makes its debut in October.
Since the OnePlus Nord isn’t coming to the US market, it would be nice to see the price of the OnePlus 8T match that of the OnePlus 8, but I doubt they’d be willing to go that low on the price.
A OnePlus 8T Pro surprise?
The OnePlus 8T rumors have been floating around for a while now, but there have been a few whispers regarding the existence of a OnePlus 8T Pro as well. Many of the phone’s specifications appear to align with those of the OnePlus 8T, but the Pro variant is said to have a larger, QHD+ display, more RAM and a slightly better camera.
Personally, I don’t think the OnePlus 8T Pro will even materialize since the OnePlus 8 Pro is still one of the best phones of 2020, but Oneplus could prove me wrong and give us yet another device that will outclass the competition.
