There are so many headphones to choose from that it really make your head spin trying to find the “best” truly wireless earbuds. Google threw its Pixel Buds (2nd generation) into the ring last year, after seeing a disappointing launch of the original and forgotten Pixel Buds with the awkward wire that connected the earbuds.
It seems that we could be on the cusp of seeing another iteration of the Pixel Buds coming soon, thanks to some FCC filings for two new devices named “GPQY2” and “G7YPJ“. At first glance, you might not think these are the new Pixel Buds, but looking into the FCC certification, you can see that the manufacturer is ‘Weifang Goertek Electronics”. This is the same maker of last year’s Pixel Buds, so it’s safe to assume that Google’s nearing the launch of some new headphones.
Unfortunately, there’s really not much else to go off of from the filing, as many of the details are hidden due to the confidentiality clause between the FCC and the accessory maker. However, the filings do show that the dimensions are exactly the same as last year’s release, meaning that Google is making the right move and isn’t coming back with a drastic redesign of the Buds.
Google is rumored to be nearing the release of the Pixel 5a, which seems to be just a pretty-boring re-release of the Pixel 4a 5G. The real Pixel of the year won’t be arriving until later this year, likely in September, but it’s plausible to think that Google could launch these new Pixel Buds alongside the Pixel 5a. Considering that the Pixel Buds were released in April of last year, we’re getting close to that one-year mark from the original launch date.
