Things haven’t been looking too great for Huawei over the past year or so, after it was banned thanks to the ongoing trade dispute with the U.S. The company then sold off its Honor sub-brand, while continuing to try and figure out what it was going to do for itself. Since then, we haven’t heard too much from Honor, as the company was switching gears and working to release a new phone all by its lonesome.
Fast forward to today, and we have the all-new Honor 50 series, with a total of three devices being unveiled at an event in China.
Honor 50
We already knew most of what was going to be arriving with this trio of devices, thanks to some well-timed leaks just last week. Nevertheless, all three devices are official now, with the Honor 50 sporting a 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED display equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate, along with the Snapdragon 778G SoC and 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.
Moving to the unique camera array, we have a 108MP wide-angle main sensor, along with an 8MP ultrawide lens, and dual-2MP macro and depth sensors. On the front, you’ll find a single 32MP wide-angle selfie camera capable of recording 1080p @ 30fps. Looking to battery life, the Honor 50 is packed with a 4,300mAh cell, capable of 100W.
Honor 50 Pro
Unsurprisingly, there really aren’t too many differences between the Honor 50 and the Honor 50 Pro. The Snapdragon 778G is the same, along with the rear camera setup and storage configurations. Where the Honor 50 Pro stands apart from the standard version is in the larger 6.72-inch display, the battery, and the selfie cameras.
Instead of sticking to just the single 32MP sensor for selfies, the 50 Pro adds another 12MP lens for ultrawide selfies. As for the battery, it’s slightly smaller, coming in at 4,000mAh, but gains 100W fast charging speeds. Honor claims that these speeds will get you up to 100% in just about 25 minutes.
Honor 50 SE
Rounding out the trio is the Honor 50 SE. Unlike the Honor 50 and 50 Pro, there are more than just a few spec differences. The 50 SE has the largest display of the bunch thanks to its 6.78-inch panel, also equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate. But this uses an LCD display, instead of the OLED found on the Honor 50 and 50 Pro.
Processing power has also been changed up, as Honor opted to go with the MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G, instead of using the same Snapdragon 778G. RAM and storage configurations remain the same, as you’ll be able to get 8GB and either 128GB or 256GB, respectively.
One camera sensor has been removed from the array on the back. The 108MP sensor is still the star of the show, along with an 8MP ultrawide, and 2MP macro lens. Honor opted to forgo the 2MP depth sensor with the 50 SE. The battery size matches up with that of the Honor 50 Pro with the 4,000mAh cell. But Honor has dropped the charging speeds to just 66W from the 100W found on the other Honor 50 devices. Honor claims you’ll be able to go from 0-70% in 20 minutes.
Pricing and availability
The Honor 50 lineup is available for pre-order in China starting today. Here’s the pricing breakdown:

Although the devices are available for pre-order only in China today, Honor stated that it has plans to bring the lineup to many more international markets over the coming weeks and months. Unfortunately, the U.S. was nowhere to be found, so we’ll have to rely on importing through the likes of GearBest to get our hands on one.
