Samsung wants to make their smartwatches more customizable

0

There are a lot of accessories made for the Apple Watch, whether it be protective covers or straps. The same cannot necessarily be said for other brands of smartwatches, but Samsung wants to change that.

According to a report from LetsGoDigital, they have discovered a patent filed by Samsung for something called the “Samsung Watch Design Studio”. Based on the description of the patent, it sounds like this is a service that Samsung wants to launch that will allow users to customize their smartwatches to a greater degree.

“Retail store services for smartwatches and band straps. Providing online software for the purpose of allowing customers to customize and design and purchase smartwatches and smartwatch band straps.”

We’re not sure to what extent users will be able to customize their smartwatches, so that remains to be seen. It is interesting and it kind of reminds us back in the day when Motorola launched its Moto Maker service which allowed customers to customize their Motorola handsets.

That being said, it seems like Samsung is certainly making quite a bit of effort with wearables. Google announced during I/O 2021 that they would be teaming up with Samsung to revamp the Wear OS platform, so hopefully we’ll have more details about that and this “Watch Design Studio” at MWC 2021 next week.
