It’s been almost a year since Lenovo released an updated version of its smart clock with the Smart Clock Essential. But this was a different take on a Google Assistant-powered smart display as it ditched the LCD panel for one showing just a clock, date, and weather information. However, the Lenovo Smart Clock 2 is on its way later this year, offering a proper updated display with some new features compared to the original Smart Clock.
The Lenovo Smart Clock 2 features a 4-inch LCD IPS display with customizable clock faces, allowing you to show off pictures, the time, weather, and more. Since this is a Google Assistant smart display, Lenovo has updated the speakers to include 3W front-firing speakers along with a single Farfield microphone array.
Under the hood, the MediaTek MT8167S handles the heavy-lifting, while being paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of flash storage. Bluetooth 4.2 is on board, along with support for 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. On the back of the Smart Clock 2, you’ll find a USB-A charging port that might be best-suited for a smartwatch. There’s also a hardware switch to disable the built-in microphone to combat any privacy concerns.
But the big addition to the Smart Clock 2 is the wireless charging dock that can be used instead of the standard AC adapter. Not only can you dock the Smart Clock 2, but it can also be used as a wireless charger for your smartphones. Charging speeds are capped at 10W, but the Smart Clock 2’s charging dock is also compatible with the MagSafe technology found on the iPhone 12 series.
Lenovo has confirmed that the Smart Clock 2 and its wireless charging dock will be arriving sometime in September. It will be priced at $89.99, and it will be available in three different colors: Abyss Blue, Cloud Grey, and Shadow Black.
