By It’s been a bit over a month since we heard about the Samsung Captivate headed to Rogers in Canada, but a new leak by Cellular Guru today suggests they could be close to launching the device. An internal screenshot of an employee training module shows that the Samsung Captivate – alongside other non-Android devices – is being pushed into the faces of Rogers employees everywhere. (The politically correct way to say it: training on the phone has begun.)
Unfortunately, Rogers isn’t yet ready to come clean with pricing and availability information, but we can’t imagine they’ll go too deep into Autumn without a word. The Samsung Captivate is just as much of a Galaxy S phone as any of them with its 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, 16GB of internal storage, 5-megapixel camera and 720p HD video recording. I’d say you Rogers fans have a lot to look forward to very soon. (We’d place a nice, big, red circle around all of next week, for starters.)

I’m guessing that it’s launching with Android 1.5
No way Rogers is giving up their TeleNav GPS Navigation which they charge $10/mo for.
Rogers will be releasing this phone with the following:
Android 2.1
Swype
Daily Briefing (Some sort of home screen amalgamation tool)

I think they pretty much have to in order to be competitive with Bell and Telus who also have the Galaxy S phones in their line up.
Rogers sells the iPhone and it has access to turn by turn software that is outside of the Rogers TeleNav. I found the only phones that they really lock down the GPS on is their BlackBerry line.

P.S. I for one am awaiting patiently on this phone. My WinMo is way past its prime.
I’ve got a Acer Liquid E on Rogers and they pretty much left it Stock Android 2.1. There are a few Rogers Account access apps but My experience with them has been good.
I checked out the Bell version at the store and man, that screen and the home screen movement is smooth. I’d like to get one eventually, but my current handset is a work horse. I’d almost be tempted to get the next version if Acer keeps the customizations to a minimum like they did with the Liquid E.
I’ve got the Rogers version of Captivate and it runs very good apart from the Gallery…it crashes about 30% of the time when I try to open it. It’s really irritating but something I can live with.
GPS works great on this model.
