After spending a few years in purgatory, Honor made a big splash on the smartphone scene in 2021. The company released some pretty incredible options such as the Honor 50 and the Magic V. At MWC 2022, Honor has introduced its new flagship smartphone lineup, along with some other exciting devices.
The Honor Magic 4 and Magic 4 Pro are finally here, bringing another flagship Android competitor to the ever-growing market. Both of these phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, while sporting a 6.81-inch OLED display. And the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage on the lower-end model.
The standard Magic 4 is equipped with a triple camera setup on the back, as it offers a 50MP wide-angle lens, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and an 8MP telephoto camera with up to 50x zoom. Back on the front, the Magic 4 sports a 12MP selfie camera found in the hole punch at the top of the display. In terms of battery life, Honor has included a 4,800mAh cell complete with 66W fast wired charging speeds.
As the name might suggest, the “true” flagship comes via the Magic 4 Pro with its 6.81-inch LTPO “Quad-Curved Display. By using LTPO, this display can show up to 1.07 billion colors, while supporting the likes of DCI-P3 and HDR10+. Plus, it offers a variable refresh rate that switches between 1Hz and 120Hz using Honor’s MotionSync technology.
Many of us spend hours every day staring at our phones, which makes Honor’s implementation of Pulse Width Modulation at 1920Hz even more impressive. This, combined with the LTPO display, will help to reduce eye strain without needing to apply a blue-light filter to the screen.
Moving to the camera system, the Magic 4 Pro is also equipped with a triple camera array. This time around, there’s a 50MP wide-angle lens, along with a 50MP ultra-wide sensor sporting a 122-degree Field of View, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera. According to Honor, the Magic 4 Pro’s telephoto lens is capable of delivering 3.5x optical zoom along with 100x digital zoom. But to take things a step further, the company’s “Multi-Camera Computational Photography” will provide much better clarity compared to the results found on similar camera arrays.
Other features of the Magic 4 Pro include a 4,600mAh battery equipped with Honor’s SuperCharge technology. With this available, the Magic 4 Pro can reach up to 100W wired charging speeds and can go from 0-100% in just 30 minutes. But the Magic 4 Pro is also the first phone to use Honor’s 100W Wireless SuperCharge which can go from 0-50% in just 15 minutes.
One of the biggest frustrations in a few of the best Android phones is slow and unreliable fingerprint scanners. Honor is aiming to change that rhetoric as it has implemented Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2. This features a 77% larger fingerprint reader area, along with being 40% faster and capturing almost 2x more biometric data.
