The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is an interesting handset. Not only is it the most powerful phone Samsung has released to date, but it also combines features from Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S-series and Galaxy Note-series, where the latter appears to have been discontinued.
With Samsung officially introducing S Pen support in the Galaxy S21, with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung took it one step further by integrating an S Pen slot so that users can keep their stylus safely and not worry about losing it.
It’s a great phone, but it’s also incredibly expensive, so if you bought it through a carrier’s plan to help make it more affordable, we get it. The downside to purchasing it through a carrier is that usually, your carrier will lock the SIM card to their network which makes it hard to take it to different carriers or use overseas.
The good news is that unlocking the SIM card on the Galaxy S22 Ultra is actually really easy and there are two ways to go about it, one through your carrier or another through a SIM unlocking service like Android SIM Unlock.

Unlocking through your carrier
If you don’t relish the idea of paying for a SIM unlocking service, then going through your carrier is the best option because it is free. There is a small catch and that is your carrier will usually have several requirements in place before they will unlock the SIM for you. This will vary from carrier to carrier, but the general requirements are:
- You need to be in good standing with your carrier, meaning that you don’t have any outstanding bills and that the contract with your carrier for the phone has expired
- You’ll also need to make sure that you have owned the device for at least 60-90 days
Assuming you meet those requirements, then the process of unlocking the SIM is pretty easy, just follow the steps below:
- On your Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra handset, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to pull up your phone’s IMEI number
- Write the IMEI number down somewhere so you can refer to it later
- Call your carrier and request for your SIM unlock code
- You will probably be asked to provide the IMEI for the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s
- If you meet all the requirements that we mentioned above, the SIM unlock code will be sent to the email address you provided in the next 2-5 days.
- Once you’ve received your code, swap out the SIM with a SIM from another carrier
- Enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email when prompted and you’re set!
Like we said, the requirements might be slightly different as different carriers might have different rules, so do give your carrier a call and ask them what’s required before proceeding.
Getting the unlock code from a paid third-party service
Seeing as the Galaxy S22 Ultra is still new (at this time of writing), there is a chance your carrier might reject your request to unlock the SIM for you for free. If that is the case, then you’ll need to use a SIM unlocking service such as Android SIM Unlock. You’ll have to pay a small fee but it won’t be too expensive.
- On your Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to get the device’s IMEI number
- Write the IMEI number down
- Go to Android SIM Unlock’s website (click here for the Exynos version)
- Enter your device’s IMEI number
- Complete the checkout process with your payment and contact information
- Once payment is made, you should then receive the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s unlock code either through SMS or email
- The moment you’ve received your code, you can then swap out the SIM on your phone with a SIM from another carrier
- You should be prompted to enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email, and once you’ve done that, you should be good to go
We would like to remind you that unlocking the phone’s SIM does not release you from your contract with your carrier. You’ll still have to make repayments and pay your bills, but you now have the added freedom of using any SIM card with the phone, making it perfect if you plan to travel and purchase a local SIM card.
