There’s something morbid about the horror genre where you know what’s going to happen, you know it’s going to be scary, but there is a certain fascination about watching it all unfold. Plus the spike of adrenaline you get when the monster pops out or when the ghost shoves itself in your face, there’s something addictive about that.
Now, if you love the horror genre and want to be able to enjoy it while on the go, you’re in luck because we’ve compiled some of the best horror games we’ve found for Android, so check it out and take them for a spin…if you dare!
Fran Bow Chapter 1
When it comes to horror games, obviously the more realistic it looks, the scarier it gets, right? That doesn’t always necessarily have to be the case, like with Fran Bow Chapter 1 where behind the seemingly simple graphics lie a rather creepy and spooky tale.
Players play as the character Fran, a young girl struggling with a mental disorder. You’ll have to live in her shoes and navigate the way around the mental asylum, all the while figuring out and solving puzzles along the way.
Bendy and the Ink Machine
Looking at the screenshots of Bendy and the Ink Machine are enough to give us the creeps. With a sepia-ish hue covering the entire game, it certainly lends a creepy touch to the experience. If there is one thing we love about this game, it would be its graphics where it features drawings that are very similar to Mickey Mouse cartoons from back in the day.
Like most horror games, Bendy and the Ink Machine tasks players with solving puzzles while creeping around and fighting off monsters.
The Walking Dead: Season One
If you’ve enjoyed The Walking Dead series on AMC or the original comics by Robert Kirkman, what about trying to live through the universe? We’re sure many have wondered how they might fare in a zombie apocalypse, and The Walking Dead: Season One is a good place to start.
While not necessarily an action-packed game, it relies on a story and choices the player makes that will advance them forward, which we reckon helps to create a much more immersive gaming experience. Plus if you enjoyed the first season, there are more seasons after that you can play as well.
Five Nights at Freddy’s
We would be remiss if we were to create a list of horror games and not include Five Nights at Freddy’s, which ever since it launched back in 2014 has gone on to become a cult classic in the horror genre.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, players find themselves working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where the seemingly innocent and cheery animatronic robots come to life at night. Players will have to watch the security cameras carefully to ensure the robots stay put, but must do this with the challenge of running out of electricity for the night.
It sounds simple enough, but if this is your first time playing it, you’re in for quite a scare.
Oxenfree
While we wouldn’t necessarily consider Oxenfree to be a horror game, at least not in the strictest sense, there are various moments in the game where it felt downright creepy and made the hairs on the back of our necks stand.
Basically players take control of a character called Alex, where she goes on an adventure on an old military island with some of her friends. But throughout the course of the game, your friends start disappearing and you start getting strange messages through a radio, some of which sound rather ominous.
The best thing about this game is that your choices can have an impact on the ending, so even if you’ve finished it once, you can replay it and make different choices that will have a different end result.
