The concept of gaming smartphones seems like a bit of a novelty when they first came out, but the more we look at it, the more it makes sense. Having dedicated hardware specific to gaming can improve the overall experience, especially since touch controls can sometimes feel finicky.
Plus the boost in performance, better overall cooling, larger batteries, and so on are great features even if you’re not necessarily a gamer. Now, if you’re in the market for a new gaming smartphone, then you might be interested to learn that ZTE has announced the global launch of the nubia REDMAGIC 7 Pro smartphone.
If this sounds familiar, it is because the company had actually announced the handset earlier this year at MWC 2022, but at the time of the announcement, it was only available in China. Now as a quick recap for those who are hearing about this phone for the first time, here are the specs you can expect:
- 6.8-inch FHD+ AMOLED edge-to-edge display
- 120Hz refresh rate
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset
- Dedicated Red Core 1 gaming chip
- 16GB of RAM
- 256/512GB storage
- Built-in 20,000RPM high-speed fan with built-in RGB lights
- 500Hz touchpad dual shoulder triggers
- Dual speakers with DTS surround
- 64MP + 8MP + 2MP triple rear-facing cameras
- 16MP front-facing camera hidden under the display
- 5,000mAh dual-cell battery with support for 65W charging
As you can tell, it is quite a powerful phone and while we might not necessarily be fans of the RGB lights, it does lend to the gamer aesthetic if that’s your kind of thing. What we are digging is the fact that the phone has hidden the front-facing camera under the display, resulting in a seamless near bezel-less look.
The ZTE nubia REDMAGIC 7 Pro will be available on the 22nd of April for early birds, or if you’re not in any particular rush, global availability is set for the 27th of April where it will be priced starting at $799.
