Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 could be a beast at reading and writing data

The speed that you feel when using a smartphone isn’t coming entirely from the phone’s processor. RAM can also affect speed, and in case you didn’t know, so can storage type. This might actually be more important for those who do a lot of reading or writing to their phone’s storage, like when taking a lot of photos or videos, for example (which is why choosing the best SD card for your camera is equally important).

The good news is that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 could actually be a beast at its reading/writing speeds. This might have actually been hinted at by Samsung themselves during the 2022 Flash Memory Summit where they unveiled that they plan on mass producing UFS 4.0 flash storage.

For those unfamiliar, UFS 3.1 is currently one of the more commonly-used flash storage found in smartphones, but UFS 4.0 will offer up quite a bit of improvements and advantages. This includes 23.2Gbps data transfers, 2,800MB/s write speeds, 4,200MB/s read speeds, plus it is also 45% more power efficient, meaning that users can read/write a lot of data quickly but it won’t be too much of a battery drain.

Samsung does not actually confirm if UFS 4.0 will be used in the Fold 4, but the company does mention that they are producing a 1TB module that will be small enough to fit inside of a smartphone. Couple that with the rumors of a 1TB Galaxy Z Fold 4 model, and it’s starting to look like a possibility.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be unveiled on the 10th of August alongside the Flip 4. Reservations are currently being accepted and customers who reserve either handset wll be getting $200 in Samsung Credit.
