When you search for something, like a review of a product, while specific review websites might be a good place to find these reviews, sometimes finding reviews in forums might also provide better insight from other users who might be able to share their own experience that might have been glossed over by the reviewer.
Unfortunately, Google doesn’t always do a good job at surfacing forum posts when you’re trying to search, and we suppose we can’t really blame them. After all, with all the SEO hacks out there, there are many websites that are using all kinds of tricks to stay on the front page of search results, but not anymore.
Google has announced that they will be introducing a new feature called “Discussions and forums” that will now include forum posts in search results. Prior to this, if you wanted to search a forum on Google, you would have to add the forum name in the search query, like “best Android phones reddit” and so on, but with this new feature, you won’t have to. According to Google:
“The new feature, labeled “Discussions and forums,” will include helpful content from a variety of popular forums and online discussions across the web. For example, if you search for the best cars for a growing family, in addition to other web results, you’ll now see links to forum posts that include relevant advice from people, like their experience with minivans for transporting multiple children.”
Google says that this new feature will be rolling out today in English for users in the US, and we expect that eventually it should find its way to more users in more markets and languages.
