The problem with in-display fingerprint sensors is that sometimes they can be a bit slow, especially compared to capacitive sensors, but the upside is that they help create a more seamless look as there are no external/physical buttons.
Now, with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S23, the latest rumors are claiming that Samsung could end up using Qualcomm’s next-gen in-display sensors. Qualcomm debuted their new 3D Sonic Max sensor earlier this year, so there’s a chance that this could be the tech that will power the sensor in the phone.
For those wondering what the big deal is, the new 3D Sonic Max sensor has a much larger surface area of 20mm x 30mm compared to the 3D Sonic Gen 2 sensor, making it about 10x bigger. This means that users will have more surface area to rest their finger on as opposed to only a small section of the display.
The new sensor is also said to be five times more accurate and can even support two fingers at the same time. For those who have felt that the Galaxy S22’s in-display sensors were a bit slow, then this change (if true) is good news and something we can look forward to come 2023 when the Galaxy S23 series is expected to be launched.
