While triple-A console games were the main highlights at the recently-concluded 2022 Game Awards, mobile gaming fans made their presence felt when Genshin Impact won the “Player’s Voice” Award at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The popular mobile RPG managed to snag the title after fans made their voices heard for the award category, beating out SEGA’s Sonic Frontiers.
Other nominees for the category included the much-lauded “God of War: Ragnarok” and “Elden Ring,” as well as indie darling “Stray.” Aside from Genshin Impact, not a lot of mobile games were spotted during the event.
Developed by MiHoYo Studios and released a few years back, Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action RPG which combines elements from popular action-adventure games and shrinks them down into a more smartphone-friendly format, although it is available on PC as well.
In other MiHoYo news, the studio has teased an upcoming action RPG titled “Zenless Zone Zero,” which will make its way to PC and mobile devices. A teaser video showing characters and a bit of story was also released by the studio, although no official launch date has been mentioned so far.
