It’s no secret that Google is heavily invested in AI, and we’ve seen a lot of their efforts applied across various products and services, but in the recent months, OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been gaining steam and it looks like Google is not taking this lying down.
Following a report from last week, it looks like Google has officially taken the wraps off Bard AI, its AI-powered chatbot equivalent to ChatGPT. The initial launch will only be available to “trusted testers”, but it is expected to become more widely available to the general public in the coming weeks.
Bard will be powered using natural language processing from Google’s LaMDA where it will help provide users with search answers in a more natural and conversational manner. Right now, Google relies heavily on data from websites to display information in its knowledge cards, so the quality of the results will depend on the website itself.
By using natural language and making it sound more conversational, it could in some instances answer questions directly instead of directing users to a website. This is one of the features that has appealed to users who have tried out ChatGPT, making the search process feel like you’re talking to someone as opposed to just listing results.
It remains to be seen how well Bard will fare against ChatGPT. Google does have the advantage of having more data to work with, but we’ll have to try it for ourselves to see.
