Google in trouble as Samsung considers switching to Bing

0

Google Search is the default search for many browsers out there, and the company most certainly tries its hardest to keep it that way, even if it means having to pay companies like Apple billions to keep them as the default search in Safari.

Unfortunately, it looks like one of Google’s partners could be going in a different direction. According to a report from The New York Times, it seems that Samsung is apparently in talks with Microsoft about potentially making Bing its default search engine on its phones. It would seem that Samsung is pretty taken with how Microsoft has successfully integrated AI into its search.

For those unfamiliar, Microsoft recently teamed up with Open AI to integrate a variant of ChatGPT into its Bing search engine. This has caused Bing to experience a huge spike in popularity as the integration with ChatGPT has made search a lot more interesting and also informative.

The report goes on to claim that Google has since learned about this meeting which has caused the company to “panic”. That being said, Google is working on its own alternative to ChatGPT in the form of Bard AI. The company has rolled out the AI to the public for testing, so now it seems that we’ll have to wait and see if Google can convince Samsung to stay or if Samsung could shift towards Bing.

That doesn’t mean that users can’t use Google search on their phones, but by potentially swapping out Google for Microsoft for the default search, there might be many users who might not know about this or might not be bothered to change it back, which in turn could cause Google to lose many users.
