Since Meta owns several apps that are widely used around the world, it’s not surprising that some of them have cross-share features. For example, users posting a Story on Instagram have the option of sharing it onto Facebook simultaneously, thus saving them from having to create a new and separate posting.
Now it looks like some of that cross-sharing functionality will be coming to WhatsApp. According to a report from WABetaInfo, it appears that Meta is getting ready to introduce a new feature to WhatsApp, where status updates made in WhatsApp can also be shared to Facebook at the same time.
While Meta owns WhatsApp, they have interestingly kept it separate from Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, so this would be the first time that we can recall that we’re seeing cross-sharing features. WhatsApp’s status updates are similar in concept to Instagram’s Stories, where users can post photos or text as a status which will only be visible for 24 hours.
This upcoming change could be useful for brands who might have WhatsApp business accounts but who also want to keep their Facebook followers and customers updated. There is no word on when the feature is expected to roll out, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for it.
