When foldable phones first hit the market, many were quick to discover the potential durability issues with them. Over the years, companies like Samsung have refined the design to make it more durable than ever, but despite being late to the party, Google seems to have ignored some of those lessons.
According to a report from The Verge, it appears that they have discovered that there are quite a number of user reports in which it suggests that the Google Pixel Fold isn’t as durable as it could be. They cite a report from Ars Technica’s Ron Amadeo in which his Pixel Fold’s screen was damaged when a potentially small piece of debris got caught between the phone’s bezels and screen protector, smashing the panel when the phone was closed.
Amadeo isn’t alone in his claims as other users on Reddit have also reported similar issues. Some are also claiming other issues like peeling from the screen protector, while some are also claiming that a bright pink line has appeared on the phone’s inner display only after a couple of hours of use.
This isn’t to say that other foldable phones aren’t prone to similar damages, but it feels like given the length of time foldables have been in the market, Google should have picked up a thing or two to avoid these types of mishaps. Hopefully those who have been affected will be able to claim their warranties. If you are planning on getting the Pixel Fold for yourself, then these are potential issues you should consider.
