Samsung’s wearable efforts in the past couple of years has been largely focused on smartwatches. The company’s lineup did previously include devices like the Galaxy Fit series of fitness trackers, but the last time we saw a new model was in 2020 with the Galaxy Fit 2.
The device could finally be getting a successor, according to a report from SamMoile who spotted a new model at the FCC which has recently received certification, meaning that the device has been approved by the FCC for sale in the US.
The model number of the device is SM-R390 and from the accompanying diagram which shows the back of the device, it will have a heart rate sensor along with two pogo pins which will be used for charging. As SamMobile notes, the shape of the device most definitely confirms that it is a fitness tracker versus a smartwatch.
At this point in time not much is known about the Galaxy Fit 3 and what kind of upgrades and changes we might be able to expect. The previous model came with a 1.1-inch display and had all the features you might expect from a fitness tracker, so we’re not sure if the Fit 3 will come with a similar display size or if it could be upgraded.
It was previously rumored that the Fit 3 could be launched in 2022, but that clearly did not happen. It is possible that the device could instead be launched alongside the Galaxy S24 series in early 2024, but we’ll have to wait and see.
