Samsung Launches Temporary Cloud Backup Service for Account Holders

In what is a rather handy and useful move aimed towards smartphone users in need of a free data backup service, Samsung recently announced that it was launching its Temporary Cloud Backup, which the company calls a “secure and easy way to save and transfer important data”, which includes personal media content and other private documents.

With this feature, a Samsung Account holder has the option of uploading their data to Samsung Cloud for storage and future downloads. Samsung says that the service is free with no storage limits, although individual files are restricted to a maximum of 100GB. The transfer process can be done completely via Wifi, without the need for any additional hardware.

“Temporary cloud backup provides a reliable and convenient way for users to back up and restore important information.. This upgraded switching experience based on Samsung Cloud² aims to provide peace of mind to Samsung Galaxy users that precious data will not be lost, thanks to the connected power of Galaxy’s ecosystem.”

The feature is part of Samsung’s Maintenance Mode feature, which allows users to keep their files safe when sending their phone in for repairs. With that said, this data storage system is after all, temporary – user data is stored for up to 30 days starting from the initial backup date, after which it will be deleted from the servers. Users will also be notified when their 30-day deletion deadline draws near.

Samsung adds that the full global rollout of the Temporary Cloud Backup starts this fall for all Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets with One UI 6, starting with Galaxy S and Z series smartphones in Korea.
