A couple of years back, Netflix made an interesting and odd decision to get into gaming. Now it looks like YouTube will be heading down the same road as they have started to roll out their new Playables feature.
For those unfamiliar, Playables is a feature that will be exclusive to YouTube Premium subscribers. Unlike Netflix where their mobile games are released as separate standalone apps, one of the perks of YouTube Playables is that you get to play these games directly on your phone and desktop browser through YouTube’s own platform, no separate downloads required.
Note that these games aren’t being streamed so it’s not as if YouTube Playables is picking up where Google Stadia left off. Also, these games aren’t exactly triple A titles, but if you’re looking for some entertainment while waiting for new YouTube videos to be released, or if you’re looking to take a break in between videos, they might be worth checking out.
Interestingly, YouTube notes that Playables will only be available until the 28th of March, 2024. Presumably this launch is some kind of test to see how well-received it is before the company decides if they want to continue investing into it, but either way if you’re a Premium user, then you should check it out, maybe you’ll find something fun to play while you’re at it.
