In our opinion, smartphone cameras could do with less megapixels and instead focus on larger sensors. Larger sensors have the advantage of being able to collect more data and light, ultimately increasing photo and video quality. It looks like Oppo has heard our wishes with the launch of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra.
Insane cameras
One of the standout features of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra is the use of the 1-inch Sony LYT-900 sensor. Companies like Xiaomi have introduced the use of 1-inch sensors, but we haven’t really seen many other companies follow suit.
The camera setup on the Find X7 Ultra features the use of four 50MP cameras. The main wide camera making use of the 1-inch Sony sensor. It also uses a customized lens with OIS and a pretty wide aperture of f/1.8. Oppo claims that the camera offers a 50% reduction in reflection.
There is also an accompanying ultra wide-angle lens with a 14mm equivalent focal length. This is accompanied by two periscope cameras. The periscope cameras offer 3x periscope zoom with a 65mm focal length. The other will feature a 6x periscope zoom with a 135mm equivalent focal length. This could come in handy when taking portraits or even landscapes.
Oppo will also be using their HyperTone image engine, which they claim will “safeguard photo integrity” and give it a natural look. This is versus other computational forms of photography that might result in photos looking a bit overly polished.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra will also see Oppo continue their partnership with Hasselblad. This is evidenced in the Hasselblad Portrait and Master Modes. This gives users the option to simulate various Hasselblad lenses and unlocks more advanced controls for those more well-versed in photography.
Other specs
As for the rest of the specs of the phone, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. It will also come with a QHD+ display with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness. The display also supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Google’s Ultra HDR standard.
The phone will also pack up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 100W SuperVOOC charging that will fully juice up the phone in about 30 minutes.
Pricing and availability of the Find X7 Ultra have yet to be confirmed so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info.
