As they are Android devices, they must be hackable! Stericson led the charge on Logitech’s model – the Revue – and while we are probably some time off from full-blown root access, he’s at least been able to uncover the Revue’s recovery mode. There’s not much to the story, but if you’ve been waiting for its chains to be freed (even if there’s nothing special you can do to a Google TV unit once rooted), then you’ll want to keep following Stericson as he hammers away at it. This is good news, once the recovery menu is found and figured out it usually isn’t too long before a root method shows up. It might be as soon as a month or two from now, or sooner depending on how determined Stericson is to crack this thing. Also, can anyone read the recovery menu options? I don’t have a GTV so I can’t just get into the menu myself to find out but if there’s an option on there like android phones’ “apply update.zip” that seems like a promising route to take to root this.
Honestly it just needs to be released to the community…specifically the guys over at XDA IMO. Let the community work together to crack it wide open. Not like we need custom UI stuff…just need a nice root access
I dont have one myself either but from what I can see the second option says something like “apply update from….”, the third option is wipe data/factory reset and the fourth option is wipe cache.
what are you talking about steve? of course we need custom UI stuff!! Imagine a cyanogenMod based rom for googleTV lol
I can’t wait. I got my Logitech Revue yesterday, compliments of Google…I was one of the 10,000 who received it for FREE…..I am going to start playing with it tomorrow.
Doesn’t look good, his last tweet says “unrootable untill the SDK comes out or we are given adb access”
