While some hands-on demonstrations of the Motorola XOOM and an extensive walkthrough at Verizon’s CES keynote gave us a good taste of what Android 3.0 Honeycomb will bring in terms of change to the operating system, Google is planning an event to give an even deeper look at the new version of its mobile platform. While Android aficionados are busy picking apart the Honeycomb SDK preview that just came online this week, Andy Rubin and crew are gearing up to give the masses a bit more.
The event, which will take place next Wednesday in Mountain View, CA, will see Rubin first present his take on the new OS followed by plenty of hands-on time with Honeycomb. We are assuming Google has reached a more stable build than the untouchable version featured on the XOOM at CES.
While you could say there isn’t much more we could discover about Honeycomb, we are sure Rubin and crew have some surprises up their sleeves. Could this event coincide with a launch of a new web-based Android Market? Google Music? Or will the proceedings be squarely focused on showing off just how awesome Honeycomb really is?

Sweet, I’d love to hear some Google Music info, and whether or not they incorporated BlindType into Honeycomb. Above and beyond those though, I just want a firm release date for the Xoom, and this should just bring us one step closer!
Maybe they will talk about Google Music since it is a 2 hour event. I am glad they are streaming it.

@Ace Curry: doubt it. I’m beginning to think that they don’t know if the next phone release will be Honeycomb or not either.
If you look back at D:DIM video with Andy, he didn’t really answer the question even when they directly asked him about this.. The interview with Matias Duarte at CES was the same: Josh directly asked him about Honeycomb on phones, and he didn’t say anything specific.
The only reason I can think of is that they didn’t know the answer.
I’m looking forward to what else Honeycomb is capable of. What little of the UI I’ve seen definitely looked very cool, and I really liked what I’ve seen thus far, but I really want to see something to justify the price point. The Xoom is definitely the best Android tab to date (from what we’ve seen), but for what they’re asking, you could buy a pretty decent laptop. Time will tell us what a Tegra 2 and Android 3.0 is truly capable of. As for Honeycomb on phones, I am guessing that Ice Cream Sandwich will be the starting point for the “merging” of 2.x and 3.x builds, but this is pure speculation on my part, I don’t have any insider info and I may be dead wrong about ICS. Just my thoughts and two cents.

I’ve ran android ona hd2 since programmers made a stable rom..but me and a friend oc mine rooted gingerbread 2.3.2..and its break neck fast..3.0 might b too fast norcos is their such a thing?
I really hope that 3.0 will be tablet+phone OS.
I was watching “This week in Google” and they dedicated a segment of the show to discussing Honeycomb. Gina Trapani seemed to be under the impression that Google does not plan on forking Android into two separate platforms, i.e. tablet and mobile phone. Honeycomb will be available for phones, but because of the limited screen real estate of a phone it will most likely be stripped down, which is perfectly reasonable. So, Honeycomb on the phone will most likely not have those fragments that we’ve all seen on the previews. Instead, we will be taken to a separate screen. The TWIT peeps also mentioned that Honeycomb on the phone will not require a dual core processor, though Google obviously recommends it for optimal performance.
Anyways, Android is really coming into its own now.
