Market researcher Strategy Analytics has released a new report showing that Android tablet shipments have gone from 2.3 percent in the 3rd quarter of 2010 to 22% in the 4th, bringing the iPad from 96% down to 75%. This is impressive growth considering the Samsung Galaxy Tab was one of the only mainstream tablet products on the market in that quarter. (We’re not sure if they consider the Dell Streak a tablet, though.)
“The Samsung Galaxy Tab was the main driver of Android success,” Neil Mawston, director at Strategy Analytics, wrote in the report. “Tablet makers like Android because of its perceived low cost and an accompanying range of compelling media services such as YouTube and Google Maps.”
In total, over 2.1 million tablet devices were shipped compared to 100,000 in the previous quarter. It still doesn’t touch the 7.3 million iPads Apple shipped, but you have to expect the gap will only get thinner as Motorola, LG, Dell, Samsung, and more all offer up a smorgasbord of tablets on a variety of carriers starting in early 2011. Wow, that was fast! And there still aren’t any proper Android Tabs out. I’m just waiting to see how big of a hit the iPad takes when devices like the XOOM start hitting the shelves!
Xoom vs iPad, it’s getting interesting.
Xoom hands down… except for those who prefer an oversized iPhone that a primate or small child can operate, that will continue to tell themselves and everyone around them that Flash doesn’t matter.
Does that mean include Nook Colors?
I have a Galaxy tablet and I’m addicted to the thing, I use it all the time while at home, carry it with me to every room. I browse the web, manage my Netflix Queue, look at jokes and funny pics, etc. And having flash is great because then I don’t have to get up to go the my PC.
I think it’s the best 600 dollar device I’ve ever bought (I bought it at launch).
Anyone else that says otherwise just hasn’t used it very long. Trust me, use if for a few days and it gets addicting having a larger but portable screen with full web access on your hands.

XOOM vs. iPad isn’t a fair fight. iPad is much older…. XOOM vs. iPad2 would be a fair fight, depending on the release date.
Well, iPad2 isn’t gonna have Flash either… so, until it can view all the web content that I can see on my computer, that won’t be a fair fight either.
Go baby…yeah yeah…humba humba!!!
This is all Galaxy Tab, they pushed over 2M units and there are 2.1 total, this doesn’t count the Dell Streak. The bigger question is, is this only counting marketplace enabled devices?
