By ZTE had a pair of tablets on-hand at Mobile World Congress – the V9 and the V9 Plus. The short story: the V9 left a bad taste in my mouth, and moving on to the Plus made it a bit more tolerable. It’s clear ZTE’s still looking to hang around the low-end market for at least the first half of this year.
Both devices are 7 inch tablets running Android – not Honeycomb, unfortunately – and its resolution is only WVGA. Certainly not the high-end beast I thought I’d be checking out when ZTE’s Vice President said they were looking to take that next step.
And the V9 itself was just bad. I often had to press things twice to open them, swiping between homescreens was a pain, and it only has Android 2.1. Even in a world of Honeycomb, I would’ve appreciated Froyo, at least.
The V9 Plus was a bit better: it adds Android 2.2 and a 1GHz processor. The bump in speed beneath the hood translated well to user experience, though. I had no trouble doing what I wanted to do, but it wasn’t blazingly fast.
ZTE’s always been known as a low-end manufacturer, and while they had hoped things would change in 2011, it hasn’t. I’m hoping they really upgrade their wares as their competitor Huawei has as competition is key and they’ll be well-positioned with handsets in all financial levels of the market.
What about pricing? wouldn’t pay over $200 for that…

With the hundreds of tablets out and more on the way, it would be interesting to see just how well they’re actually selling, if their selling at all. Personally having a smartphone, I can’t justify buying or even needing a tablet, so one can’t help but wonder, whos buying these things. Especially in this economy. Seems like a waste to me.
These tablets not for everyone. It depend on price verses performance. On a sliding ratio the ZTE outperforms both Playcrap and crApple by two to one. There for for every dollar spend on a ZTE you get twice the value back. Because the APPS are free and music videos can be found on internet for free this ZTE is value for money. Hope ZTE sell well to reward the innovation.

The V9+ obviously is obviously NOT low-end, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz single core chipset, it runs on Android 2.2 and packs a 7-inch WSVGA!! capacitive touchscreen (the V9 had a WVGA resistive one).
On top of this it does SMS AND voice, Dolby Mobile 3.0, MicroSDHC, 512MB RAM and 4GB onboard storage, has a 5-megapixel camera with AF, Wi-Fi, DLNA, 3G (HSPA with download speeds of 14Mbps and uploads of 6Mbps), Bluetooth and GPS.
In a nutshell, it is the equivalent to the Samsung Galaxy Tab except that it will almost surely cost significantly less.
Wouldn’t have been too difficult to get all those info, seeing as you’re there. So, you might consider dropping your brand bias and start giving smaller unknown manufacturers a chance before publishing rubbish.
I have a v9 for 2 months now, and guess what, with no contract o got it by 249€.
Fact:
I don´t get to press app buttons twice… it works at the first time and well… and for a resisteve sreen… i must say it was a big surprise in the good way, because it really responds well!
…and the homessreens switching… man no pain!!!
I don’t know and happened to the one you tried… but i can assure that it works vell in deed!
And in a compative price vs performance vs specs…
I recommend the v9 (249€), about the version 2 (plus) i haven’t tried or seen it on the market yet.
