2+ Motorola Android Phones Coming Thursday?

10

twoplusHow manyAndroid Phones will Motorola announce on Thursday at Mobilize 2009? It is a question often debated/discussed as Dave and I did on Phandroid Podcast 7. If you thought definitely one, maybe two and any more would be a miracle – think again. Listen to the verbage of Om Malik (founder of GigaOM) as he builds hype for the Mobilize 2009 Conference which is put on by GigaOM itself:

Keynotes will be delivered by Cole Brodman, CTO of T-Mobile USA, and Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha, who will unveil that company’s suite of Android-based smartphones.

Suite? We’ve heard the word portfolio before, too. Throwing another plural synonym in the mix is an obvious suggestion that Motorola will announce MORE than just 2 Android Phone’s at Mobilize 2009. GET EXCITED FOLKS!

Last week, a Phandroid commenter pointed out an article on Investopedia that claimed Motorola would announce 10 Android Phones! I purposefully didn’t cover that article because I felt it was an incredible stretch with no source – I still think perhaps the analyst confused the number of phones with the launch date of September 10th. Regardless, this rumor just gained a little bit of ground in the possibility-o-meter.

Regardless, it indeed seems like Motorola will announce more than 1 or 2 Android Phones. In fact, it sounds like 4 or 5 is the more likely number. This of course coming from an eternal Android optimist. So what rumored MotoDroids do we have on record?

  1. Motorola Morrison
  2. Motorola Sholes
  3. Motorola Calgary
  4. Motorola Heron
  5. Motorola MB200
  6. Motorola MB300

That would be SIX… count em’ 1 2 3 4 5 6 Motorola Android Phones if all are announced. The MB200/MB300 could likely be the model number for one of the phones above them, but even if one was a duplicate and another phone shelved – that would be 4 Motorola Android Phones. Sounds like a portfolio to me… how about you?

This article was all written based on vocabulary-choice speculation. There are two sides to the coin:

  • The vocabulary seems deliberate and the writer likely has inside knowledge given his ties to the very conference at which Motorola is making the announcement
  • They obviously want to hype up the event and sell those last 25 tickets available

By the way, its not too late to grab one of those tickets. This thing could be pretty epic.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? How many Android Phones will Motorola announce at Mobilize 2009?

  1. If VW gets one Android phone worth owning, I will be happy. I had the MotoRazr (v2 I think) and the phones sucked: battery life, connection, usefulness, etc. It was a horrible phone.

I saw the videos for an HTC phone I think. It was not impressive because the scrolling was so slow. I am hopeful that a usable Android phone comes out soon. I am sick of my crappy Voyager that is due for its upgrade.

  2. I am one of the 3.

  3. I wonder what goodies would they have for us at the Mobilize event? I hope FREE phones or bluetooth accessories!!

  4. (may be a dumb question) Are phones announced at events like this ever quickly or immediately available from a carrier? I’m guessing that if they were it would be the carrier making the announcement…but I wanted to ask.

I can’t get too excited about phones that will be available after I wind up signing onto a plan which is soon.

  5. too baad,… i dont think any of these look any good.

  6. wooo hoooooooooooooooooo!

  7. given the discovery of the two phones in that inventory database i think it will be just those two phones

  8. From announcement to release date will have a month after announcement.

  9. Really hope that the Sholes comes out on T-Mobile…hoping to upgrade my G1 this fall without having to switch carriers. If the specs on sholes are accurate, that’ll be a no-brainer!
