The watch is (or will be) vaporware. I understand that we are a lazy society largely due to a world of technological convenience, but…A wristwatch. On your wrist. To control the phone that’s in your pocket. That looks like Swatch designed it in 1986? I just don’t see it having a market, of course, there are always going to be a few people who’ll like anything, but there aren’t going to be very many. I don’t see the appeal, even to people who aren’t serious watch collectors like myself. I’ll keep my Patek Philippes, my Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, et al. Neat idea, I just don’t see it taking off.
I would totally buy this watch, my only beef with it is that it costs $360. And i really like the design of it, if they can make a watch just like this but $200 less i will buy it in a heartbeat. So i have to disagree with you on the vaporware part, i know there are plenty of people just like me who would love to have something like this.
Possibly not vaporware, but I just don’t see this thing succeeding. As I said, of course there are people who will buy it, I just don’t see it being very successful. It is definitely a neat device, but I just don’t see it being successful at this time – especially at $360. In a market where many people think that phones over $150-$200 on contract or $300-$400+ off-contract are ridiculously expensive, I simply don’t see a $360 wrist-gizmo used to control what is basically in your other hand as being profitable, much less successful. I’ve seen more than a few similar wrist-gizmos come and go with barely any notice at all. It’s always good to push tech in different directions, however.
Time will tell.
Just a FYI, Motorola is making something similar. Was leaked on their website. Maybe this Android watch thing will be huge in the future…?

will eventually converge to some degree. While “printable hardware” isn’t new (we’ve been doing it in labs to varying degrees of complexity and success for several years now) it hasn’t been anywhere close to commercially feasible. You aren’t going to see flexible, paper-thin phones in the next year or two, but I can definitely say that they are in the near future – within the next 5-10 years.
As a side note, if you’ve ever seen a Rubik’s Magic puzzle, I’ve seen OLED screens in a very similar format – very cool.
